Chandra decided to take me to Dakshin Chitra so I could learn about Indian culture. Dakshin Chitra is a showcase of South Indian culture focusing on four states in the south Tamilnadu (The state where Chennai is present), Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. At different locations there were craftsmen showing us their work. They also had locations where people could make small crafts or get things done such as mehndi which is plant that is crushed into a paste and used to draw designs on your skin. I ended up making a small basket and getting mehndi done.
Chandra and I really enjoyed Dakshin Chitra. It was fun for me to see things his family had told me about. It was also interesting to see how different each state is from one another. We also saw photos of Chennai from the early 1900s which Chandra was fascinated by. Chennai has changed so much from when the photos were taken.
We also saw an art exhibit based on Dhristi Bommai which are dolls that ward off evil eyes. People often decorate their house with Dhristi Bommai to protect their home.
